Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about auto transport and car shipping.

How Auto Transport Works

How does auto transport work?

Auto transport companies pick up your vehicle, load it onto a carrier (open or enclosed), and transport it to the destination. We offer door-to-door service, meaning we pick up and deliver as close to your addresses as safely possible.

What types of auto transport carriers are available?

There are two main types: open carriers (exposed to the elements) and enclosed carriers (protected from the elements). Enclosed carriers are more expensive but provide better protection for luxury, classic, or high-value vehicles.

How long does auto transport take?

Transit times can vary, but for cross-country transport, it typically takes 7-10 days. Shorter distances may take a few days. We provide estimated delivery windows with your quote.

Pricing & Payment

How much does auto transport cost?

The cost varies depending on factors like distance, vehicle size, type of carrier, and location. On average, it can range from $500 to $1,500 or more. Get a personalized quote for accurate pricing for your specific route.

Do I need to pay upfront?

No. We don't require payment until your vehicle is dispatched to a carrier. This protects you and ensures we're committed to finding the right carrier for your shipment.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept credit cards, debit cards, and bank transfers. Business accounts can arrange invoicing with net-30 terms.

🛡️

Insurance & Safety

Is my vehicle insured during transport?

Yes. Auto transport carriers are required to carry auto liability and cargo insurance. Your vehicle is insured under the cargo portion of their policy. We verify carriers insurance coverage before the vehicle is picked up. All carriers must have minimum $100,000 cargo coverage.

What if my vehicle is damaged during transport?

In the event of damage, you should document it with photos and contact the transport company immediately. Make sure to note the damages on the Bill of Lading as well. Carriers and/or their insurance policy are responsible for repairs or compensation.

How do you choose your carriers?

We work only with carriers who maintain valid FMCSA licensing, DOT registration, and cargo insurance. We verify coverage before every pickup and track carrier performance to ensure quality service.

Vehicle Preparation

Do I need to prepare my vehicle for transport?

Yes. You should remove personal items, deactivate your alarm system, and ensure your vehicle is in good working condition. We recommend cleaning your car so existing damage is visible, leaving about 1/4 tank of gas, and documenting the current condition with photos.

Can I ship personal items in my vehicle?

Most auto transport companies don't allow personal items in the vehicle due to safety and liability concerns. Carriers are not insured for personal belongings. A small bag (under 100 lbs) in the trunk may be acceptable, but check with us first.

Can I ship non-running or inoperable vehicles?

Yes, many auto transport companies can accommodate non-running vehicles, but you should inform us of the condition in advance. Typical upcharge for the additional winching and tie-down work is $100-$200.

📍

Pickup & Delivery

What paperwork is required for auto transport?

It is a good idea to keep your vehicle paperwork with you. It is not necessary for these documents to be with the vehicle. Your driver will complete a bill of lading that will indicate the pick up and drop off location, vehicle info and an inspection of the vehicle condition. This will be signed by the customer at pick up and again at delivery. No other paperwork is required.

Can I schedule a specific pick-up and delivery date?

You can request specific dates, but the availability may depend on the carrier's schedule and your flexibility. We work with pickup windows (typically 1-7 days) rather than exact dates to ensure better carrier availability.

Can I track the progress of my vehicle during transport?

Yes. Many companies offer tracking services or provide updates on your vehicle's location and status. Your transport specialist will provide updates throughout the journey, and for GPS-enabled carriers, we can share real-time location when available.

Vehicle Types & Restrictions

Are there any size or weight restrictions for vehicles?

Auto transport companies can usually accommodate a wide range of vehicle sizes and weights, but they may charge extra for oversized or heavy vehicles. Additionally toolboxes or other modifications could add additional weight and incur additional costs.

What types of vehicles can you transport?

We transport all types of vehicles including sedans, SUVs, trucks, vans, classic cars, luxury vehicles, motorcycles, and more. If you have a specialty vehicle, let us know when requesting your quote.
